Course Description:
The Fire Extinguisher Operations course provides an overview of portable fire suppression systems (i.e., fire extinguishers). Course materials present the physical characteristics of different fire classes and extinguishing agents plus the appropriate emergency response procedures during a fire event. Participants will have the opportunity to practice applying specific fire extinguisher classifications to various types of fires so they can avoid a dangerous accident during a real occurrence. This course also covers installation requirements, including labeling, and inspection procedures specific to portable systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe basic fire characteristics, fire response procedures, and different types of fire extinguishers
- Identify which type of fire extinguisher to use for specific applications (i.e., equipment type, facility space, fire class, etc.)
- Describe installation and inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) requirements for fire extinguishers
