Facilities Management and the Patient Care Environment

All individuals who work in a healthcare facility.

Course Description:

Healthcare facilities operate and function differently than other business environments, especially commercial office buildings. The Environment of Care is highly regulated to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and to provide a safe healing environment for patients. Participants in this course discuss distinguishing characteristics between a healthcare facility versus other building types and the reasons behind these differences.

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss how and why healthcare facility components differ from those in other building types.
2. Identify the major building systems and components that support healthcare operations.
3. Recall codes and standards specifically created for healthcare facilities and explain their applications.
4. Analyze how facility operations impact job performance and patient care outcomes.
5. Apply best practices in healthcare facility management to improve operational success in healthcare settings.

Continuing Education:  3 CECs*
