Passive Life Safety Fundamentals
Course Description:
This is the first module of the Legacy FM Passive Life Safety Systems course that provides a broad overview of the history and origin of fire protection, the difference between passive and active life safety systems, and why they are important.Â
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the process by which codes are created, modified, or deleted, and demonstrate how to submit a public input on the National Fire Protection Association’s website.
- Describe how the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) codify laws as the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) as well as the types of codes and standards CMS enforces.
- Name the various accrediting organizations (AOs) that contract with CMS and describe the relationship between AO standards and CMS law.
- Explain how typical codebooks and standards are organized, and demonstrate how to navigate the TJC CAHM Manual (Standards) to find crucial information.
- Name the major Joint Commission (TJC) Standards chapters relevant to healthcare facilities, and describe some of their relevant inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) requirements, including written documentation.
