Fire Pump Drip Rates
I’ve been catching up on questions that have been in my linked-in messages.
This one is from a few months back and I responded directly to the individual, but didn’t do a video yet.
This hospital’s Accrediting Organization (AO) tried to cite them for having the incorrect drip rate for the packing glands when their fire pump was not running. They cited NFPA 25 Table A.8.2.2, which states about 1 drip per second. Luckily, they weren’t cited because the annex isn’t enforceable. But I wanted to point out that drip rates can vary by fire pump manufacturers. Keep that in mind and look it up when doing your monthly PM (electric, weekly for diesel).
Also, found an issue while doing this video – so check it out. Adding it to our PM for best practice.
